Robots and people who work together: it may sound like a science fiction film.\u00a0But Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is certainly not an extraterrestrial fiction.\u00a0More and more organizations discover the added value of software robots.<\/p>\n

Robotic process automation (RPA) can take labor-intensive processes off your hands.\u00a0You configure the software robot once, after which it can endlessly copy the same actions.\u00a0Some companies are skeptical about this robot software, others are enthusiastic.\u00a0Is RPA a lasting innovation and do people lose their jobs through this software?\u00a0I identify 5 trends in robotisation.<\/p>\n

  1. From local to central management<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It goes without saying that most organizations started with the use of one or only a few software robots.\u00a0This robot software is often managed from a desktop in that initial phase.\u00a0Logical.\u00a0But how do you deal with 80 robots?\u00a0You can\u2019t manage that separately.\u00a0That is why more and more organizations set up a\u00a0central server<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0on which they manage all robots.\u00a0This way you can see exactly which robots there are, what their status is and how often they are deployed.<\/p>\n

        A software robot can\u2019t deviate from the task that you have assigned him.\u00a0If there is a problem, he stops or sends an e-mail.\u00a0You set everything up yourself beforehand.\u00a0That is safe: the risk of error is minimal.\u00a0You control yourself and receive a notification if something goes wrong.\u00a0So the robot does not do anything you do not want, but: it does not do anything anymore. Now that RPA is embedded, many companies are looking for a ‘next step’.\u00a0Cognitive automation (such as Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing or Machine Learning) seems to be an ideal addition.\u00a0These technologies have a self-learning algorithm and mimic the reasoning ability of people.\u00a0They learn, ‘think’ and decide on the basis of previously acquired information and experiences. That offers enormous opportunities, but I also like to make a comment.\u00a0This cognitive automation is often very error prone.\u00a0After all, the algorithm makes its own decisions without informing you.\u00a0Then it may be that the robot once takes a different path than you approach specifically intended.\u00a0Therefore, you should clearly identify which process you want to automate, so that you know exactly which technology fits.\u00a0And keep an eye on the results in the interim.<\/p>\n

        1. RPA becomes more accessible<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          In the past five years, it became increasingly\u00a0cheaper\u00a0to implement software robots.\u00a0As a result, RPA has also become accessible to smaller organizations.\u00a0If you use this software in combination with cloud services, you do not have to set up your own data center. This saves maintenance and management costs.\u00a0RPA is also a solution for accountants, civil-law notaries or transporters, because the software can process enormous amounts of information in a short time.<\/p>\n

          1. Robots provide more jobs<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            A question that engages many employees: will the software robots shorten our jobs?\u00a0On the contrary!\u00a0The\u00a0World Economic Forum<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0calculated that there will be 58 million more jobs in 2022 thanks to robotization than at present.\u00a0Because organizations are using increasing numbers of robots, suppliers also have to create, configure and maintain more robots.\u00a0And people are still needed for that.<\/p>\n

            Advice: start small<\/strong><\/p>\n

            RPA is an efficient tool that is increasingly deploying companies.\u00a0But how do you implement software robots in your business processes?\u00a0My advice is: start small.\u00a0You do not have to automate a complex process immediately.\u00a0Start with a simple process, analyze how that goes and build up your robotization plan step by step.<\/p>\n
