deal with that without losing yourself?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"271\" height=\"186\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unrest is the new norm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The world has been restless for decades, of course, especially if you regularly check the news.&nbsp;But two foundations under our societies are changing faster and faster: technology and ecology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Technology is improving at an exponential rate \u2013 the ecology is actually deteriorating faster and more visibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It creates a lot of turmoil in the world \u2013 and then in ourselves<\/strong>&nbsp;.&nbsp;Because the acceleration of these two factors, among others, leads to enormous economic and geopolitical changes and crises that we see unfolding before our eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Violent developments seem to follow each other in rapid succession.&nbsp;It sometimes feels like we&#8217;ll never get &#8216;a break&#8217; from just living our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are no longer in an\u00a0<em>era of change<\/em>\u00a0but in\u00a0<strong>a change of era<\/strong>\u00a0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have left the relatively stable &#8216;post-war&#8217; world behind us.&nbsp;We are now well on our way to a new balance.&nbsp;And in the meantime we experience&nbsp;<strong>chaos, turmoil and uncertainty<\/strong>&nbsp;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exciting \u2013 even scary at times \u2013 and incredibly insecure.\u00a0What do we do with that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Bring it back to yourself<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter what&#8217;s happening in the world &#8211; you still have to load the dishwasher.&nbsp;And as far as I&#8217;m concerned, this is a great way to look at the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You usually have virtually no control over world events<\/strong>&nbsp;.&nbsp;We are here with billions of people of which you are only one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What can you do about a pandemic?&nbsp;What can you do about wars, about climate change?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are always steps you can (and maybe should) take.&nbsp;But your influence is always limited.&nbsp;And it&#8217;s important to realize that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You don&#8217;t have to save the world<\/strong>&nbsp;.&nbsp;And you can&#8217;t save the world.&nbsp;It&#8217;s not just your world \u2013 it belongs to all of us.&nbsp;It is therefore also our joint responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What can you do if you feel overwhelmed by world events?\u00a0Here are things that work well for me \u2013 and many blogzynergy.com readers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Stop\u00a0<strong>constantly checking the news<\/strong>\u00a0and social media.\u00a0This prevents your brain from endlessly &#8216;chewing&#8217; on issues that your brain can&#8217;t possibly solve.\u00a0This reduces the feeling of restlessness, stress and powerlessness.<\/li><li><\/li><li>Rather choose to take the state of affairs in one go with some regularity.\u00a0For example, by reading one newspaper or watching the news once.<\/li><li><\/li><li><strong>Write in your journal<\/strong>\u00a0about the things that make you restless.\u00a0Write your thoughts on paper and describe your feelings.\u00a0That way they don&#8217;t keep circulating in your head all the time.<\/li><li><\/li><li>Also immediately write down all the\u00a0<strong>little things you are grateful for<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0That immediately gives more shine to your day.<\/li><li><\/li><li>Take a moment to\u00a0<strong>&#8220;be mindful&#8221; of your feelings<\/strong>\u00a0of insecurity, fear, and anxiety.\u00a0Observe the sensation in your body without changing anything.\u00a0Just let this feeling last for a while without running away.\u00a0This gives the unrest the opportunity to &#8216;burn out&#8217;, after which you immediately feel calmer.<\/li><li><\/li><li>Investigate\u00a0<strong>which practical steps<\/strong>\u00a0you can actually take to make the situation better or\u00a0<em>less undesirable<\/em>\u00a0.\u00a0Such as making your lifestyle more sustainable, cultivating compassion and taking the necessary measures.<\/li><li><\/li><li>Focus your attention on taking those steps.\u00a0<strong>Action reduces anxiety<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0Do what needs to be done and you&#8217;ll feel better right away.<\/li><li><\/li><li>Practice\u00a0<em>rational fatalism<\/em>\u00a0.\u00a0What has happened cannot be undone \u2013 even if it\u00a0<em>should<\/em>\u00a0never have happened.\u00a0<strong>It is what it is<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 even if you mentally resist it.\u00a0Fighting reality is\u00a0<strong>always stressful<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0By accepting the current situation, you create a new starting point from which you can take your next step.<\/li><li><\/li><li>Try to focus your attention on the moment.\u00a0<strong>Practice mindfulness<\/strong>\u00a0, meditate, exercise, seek distraction.\u00a0Do you tend to worry a lot?\u00a0Then opt for physical activities.\u00a0Such as working in the garden, cleaning, tidying up or helping someone else in the house.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Breathe in slowly and relax completely.\u00a0<strong>The restlessness of the world need not make you restless<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0It is possible and allowed, but it\u00a0<em>is<\/em>\u00a0not necessary.\u00a0You don&#8217;t control what happens around you \u2013 but you can control how you deal with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By making it clear to yourself what you do have control over, you will quickly reduce anxiety.\u00a0Make your world smaller again and focus on practical steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Stay close to yourself<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What do you think is important?&nbsp;Which values \u200b\u200bwould you like to &#8216;live&#8217;?&nbsp;What do you want to stand for?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we feel anxious, we quickly withdraw into a defensive position.&nbsp;You may prefer to curl up with a nice series, a bag of chips and a comfortable dress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I know I feel that tendency in myself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s okay \u2013 but it&#8217;s probably not who you want to be.&nbsp;<strong>It&#8217;s not the life you face<\/strong>&nbsp;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It takes courage to live your values \u200b\u200bin exciting times.&nbsp;But you can practice with it step by step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For instance:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Choose compassion where you would normally judge.<\/li><li>Choose love where you would choose fear.<\/li><li>Choose listening instead of giving advice.<\/li><li>Choose patience instead of presenting your opinion directly.<\/li><li>Choose generosity when you&#8217;d rather protect your stuff.<\/li><li>Choose calm breathing where you would normally fall back into restlessness.<\/li><li>Choose mindfulness where you would normally be distracted.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You&#8217;re going to fail<\/strong>&nbsp;at this all the time \u2013 that goes for all of us, including me.&nbsp;But it is valuable to stay close to yourself, especially in troubled times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Because times will remain restless for the time being<\/strong>&nbsp;.&nbsp;So if you don&#8217;t do it now &#8211; when?&nbsp;Back straight, head up.&nbsp;Be brave and live in the way that satisfies you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Move away from fear and anxiety<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0Live your values \u200b\u200b\u2013 so you can inspire others to do the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Give the best of yourself<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever happens \u2013 tomorrow the sun will rise again.&nbsp;Life goes on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can easily be paralyzed by undesirable events in the world.&nbsp;But does that make sense if you can&#8217;t control it anyway?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You have a life to live<\/strong>&nbsp;.&nbsp;So just do what needs to be done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Loading the dishwasher, for example.&nbsp;But also take care of yourself and \u2013 very important \u2013 take care of others.&nbsp;Because heaven and earth can tremble \u2013 we are only in real trouble when we lose sight of ourselves and each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you feel anxious, then so do others.&nbsp;Perhaps you can offer a listening ear.&nbsp;Maybe you can cheer someone up.&nbsp;Maybe you can make someone else&#8217;s life a little easier or more fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe together you can provide a welcome distraction from all the misery in the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may ask yourself,&nbsp;<strong><em>\u201cHow can I contribute?&nbsp;How can I offer the most value right now?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You cannot control the world.&nbsp;But you can choose to add a little more love, a little more attention and a little more compassion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because you know how it works: societies are made up of people.&nbsp;Trade fear for love,&nbsp;<strong>and you&#8217;ve actually made society a little more loving<\/strong>&nbsp;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inspire others by living your values \u200b\u200band your influence will increase even further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The bigger the chaos, the simpler the solution:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Keep breathing calmly;<\/li><li>Focus on the next step;<\/li><li>Ask yourself,&nbsp;<em>&#8220;What would love do?&#8221;<\/em><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Sounds cheesy, but that&#8217;s the way it is.&nbsp;It works \u2013 that&#8217;s especially important to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I hope I was able to make your day a little brighter with these handles<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0The world will not become less chaotic any time soon.\u00a0So it&#8217;s up to us to find ways to stay close to ourselves \u2013 even when the waters are choppy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take it Easy!
